Our free training sessions, available online, in-person and on-demand, feature experts from the fields of architecture, engineering, construction, development and solar installation, as well as specialists concentrating on a variety of building types and market sectors. The trainings highlight case studies, present detailed technical information, and allow professionals to network and learn from established design and building professionals, community-based groups and partnered organizations. Additionally, many presentations offer professional continuing education units (CEUs).

About Our Trainings Series and Events

Allies for Efficiency

Allies for Efficiency (AFE) is a series that highlight high-performance building case studies. Each presentation features a panel discussion with the design and construction team as well as a physical or virtual tour of the building.

High Performance Design Training (HPDT)

These technical trainings cover new construction design topics including Oregon Energy Code changes, the Net Zero Emerging Leaders Internship presentations, Net Zero Fellowship research and new emerging technologies.

Building Energy Simulation Forum (BESF)

The Building Energy Simulation Forum (BESF) training series offers engineers, energy analysts and designers a forum to discuss and share knowledge on topics related to building simulation, energy analysis and modeling.

On-Demand Training

On-demand trainings are pre-recorded, available online and cover technical content that supports the net zero energy-efficiency communities. Current trainings offered include:

Training: Review of the Commercial Provisions of the 2021 Oregon Energy Efficiency Specialty Code (OEESC)

This 90-minute webinar provides an overview of current Oregon commercial energy code and recent energy code policy developments. Participants will learn about the requirements of the recently adopted 2021 Oregon Energy Code, based on ASHRAE 90.1-2019, including the envelope, mechanical, and electrical requirements. Upon completion of the course, you have the option to receive a certificate of completion, and AIA LU and Oregon CCB CEUs.

Training: Commercial Heat Pump Water Heater Systems: Sizing and Modeling

During this 90-minute webinar, participants will learn how commercial heat pump water heaters (CHPWHs) can help decarbonize water heating in multifamily buildings. A case study analysis of a retrofitted building in Seattle shows how appropriate sizing and a novel “swing tank” design led to a very small system that yields energy efficiencies and other favorable results. Upon completion of the course, you have the option to receive a certificate of completion and an AIA LU CEU.

Training: Optimizing variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems for design to operation
This series features four modules which allow participants to learn at their own pace and access the training when and where it is convenient. Upon finishing all 15-minute modules, you have the option to receive a certificate of completion, and AIA LU and Oregon CCB CEUs.
